Automatic Flow Analysis for Human Blood at Low Shear Rate Range

چکیده
A compact-sized falling needle rheometer with quick operation and automatic flow analysis has been developed for viscometry of human blood. The volume of a sample of blood only needs to be 4 mL and the measuring time is within 3 min. Measured flow properties of blood are evaluated as a flow curve showing the relationship between the shear stress and shear rate. Observed flow curves of the human bloods show three typical fluid regions, these are, the Non-newtonian fluid region for a low shear rate range, the transition region and the Newtonian fluid region for a high shear rate range. In normal male blood, the whole blood viscosity was 9.43mPa·s in the shear rate of 25 s -1 , 5.90mPa·s in the shear rate of 250 s -1 , and 5.77mPa·s in the shear rate of 500 s -1 (310K). The anticoagulated blood viscosity was 8.48mPa·s in the shear rate of 25 s -1 , 5.37mPa·s in the shear rate of 250 s -1 , and 5.21mPa·s in the shear rate of 500 s -1 (310K). These anticoagulated blood values were within the range of blood viscosity reported by other investigators. These show the shear rate dependency. More studies will be necessary to further explore these findings.

Study On Flow Erosivity Indicators for Predicting Soil Detachment Rate at Low Slopes
Soil detachment is known as an important process in soil erosion and its quantification is necessary to establish a basic understanding of erosion. This study was carried out to find the best flow erosivity indicator(s) for predicting detachment rate at low slopes. For this purpose, 12 experiments including 6 flow discharges (75, 100, 125, 150, 175 and 200 ml/s) and 2 slope gradients (1.5 and 2...
متن کاملA Numerical Analysis for the Effect of Slip Velocity and Stenosis Shape on Non-Newtonian Flow of Blood (TECHNICAL NOTE)
The aim of this paper is to study the effect of slip velocity and shape of stenosis on non-Newtonian flow of blood through a stenosed arterial segment. Blood is modeled as Bingham-Plastic fluid in a uniform circular tube with a radially non-symmetric stenosis. The problem is investigated by a joint effort of analytical and numerical techniques. The influence of stenosis shape parameter, slip ve...
متن کاملEffect of Shear Rate Variation on Apparent Viscosity of Human Blood in T\ibes of 29 to 94 jLim Diameter
In order to test the hypothesis that the increase of vascular resistance observed in vivo at low flow rates is due in part to blood Theological properties, the apparent viscosity of human blood was measured in small tubes in a range of shear rates. Pressure-flow relationships were obtained in vertical glass tubes (29 to 94 fjiin i.d.) perfused with blood at hematocrits between 0.13 and 0.65. Vi...
متن کاملAXIAL FLOW IN A ROTATIONAL COAXIAL RHEOMETER SYSTEM 1. BINGHAM PLASTIC
A mathematical analysis has been carried out for the axial flow of a Bingham plastic fluid, in the Concentric Cylinder Viscometer which consists of a cylindrical sample holder (the cup) and a cylindrical spindle (the bob) coaxial with the cup. The fluid to be tested flows through the annular gap of the cup and the bob system, sheared by the rotation of the inner cylinder, while the outer cy...
متن کاملThreshold response of initiation of blood coagulation by tissue factor in patterned microfluidic capillaries is controlled by shear rate.
OBJECTIVE Blood flow is considered one of the important parameters that contribute to venous thrombosis. We quantitatively test the relationship between initiation of coagulation and shear rate and suggest a biophysical mechanism to understand this relationship. METHODS AND RESULTS Flowing human blood and plasma were exposed to cylindrical surfaces patterned with patches of tissue factor (TF)...
